LABOR WANTED.
A COMMISSION'S FINDINGS. By Cable— Pr«sa As«««Jation—Copyright. Received 10, 9,15 p.m. Sydney, Oetolwr 10. The interim report of the Labor Commission has been tabled in the Assembly. It states that although both sides admitted a shortage existed, it wan early apparent, there wiw an abundance of unskilled Uiltor uvailaltle. except navvies for railway construction. There does, however. exist a great and permanent need for the introduction of skilled workers, owing to such not taking the risk of coming unless guaranteed work. The report details seriatim the trades affected by the enquiry, and refers only to those in connection with which evidence had been tendered. The commissioners found that the introduction of new skilled labor would result in a great increase in the general body of work and 1 the attainment of a stability in industries. One apparent aspect of the scarcity of labor is that people already here are nimble to get house accommodation.
After reviewing in detail the large number of industries affected, the report sums up the actual immediate requirement of skilled labor as 3247.
