A London cablegram reports thnt Captain Reeves, of the East Kent Regiment, has been selected for service in Xew Zealand. The death occurred at Manaia on Monday morning of Mr. f.'eorge Hatcher, a well-known farmer, at the early age of ■thirty-three years. A Reeftou telegram reports the death of Mr. ,T. A. Montgomerie, who was for over thirty years district surveyor on the West Coast, from the effects of an accident last Tuesday. The Auckland, Wellington and Ohristelmrch Presbyteries have nominated the Rev. A. Cameron, of Anderson's- Bay, Dunedin, as Moderator of the General Assembly.—Press Association. Mr. L. ,S. Jennings has been nominated from Canterbury College as the Rhodes Sfc-liolar for this year. Mr. Jennings has high scholastic attainments, and has made his mark in athletics, and is one of the foremost Canterbury tennis players.—Press Association. A Press Association telegram from ChTistchurch states that Mr. Malcolm MacFsirlane, of the Coldstream Estate, North Canterbury, died rather suddenly on Saturday night. He was born in Wellington in 1849, and inherited the Coldstream Estate in 1884 on the death of his father. He was a well-known and successful breeder of stock, and had long been prominent in.local government of the district.
