COMMITTEE ItEI'OKTS. The following reports will be considered «t to-night's meeting of tliv ISorough Council. ELECTRICAL EXIiIXEEK'S ItEL'ORT. Mr. 11. Black, electrical engineer, reports:—

Power House. —Willi longer hours of daylight tile average load is decreasing, hut on some Saturday evenings the maximum has reached about 11)0 kilowatt!*. Provided we have no mishap of any kind L do not anticipate any difiieulty in supplying the demand until next autumn. The new generator is due here in February, and if the for-ebay and pipe line are ready we should get this running in April next, by which time it will be urgently required. Connections.—The past six months has I constituted a record, 120 new connections I being put, on in that period, !I2 being lighting and 28 heating and power. We are now quite out of meters, except of the largest sizes, and have for the past few weeks been borrowing meters. Xo advice bus yet been received as to when the new meters may be expected. j Poles.—All the square poles ordered arc now to hand, and' about half of the round poles, and some of the old poles | which require it are being replaced. Jf all the suburban extensions which are being asked for are to he undertaken it will be necessary to procure some lighter poles than we have been getting, as 20-0 in. are large enough for these branch lines.

Abattoir committee. The Abattoir Committee recommends: That tlie borough engineer be authorised to procure and fix a bath at the abattoir, as recommended by the manager; that the manager be authorised to clear the gor.se and blackberry from the remainder .of the reserve, the work to be done by day labor, the Council providing the tools (estimated to cost £(>!!) ; that the manager be authorised to procure a giiiidstonc at a cost not exceeding £2, including frame; that, subject, to the engineer being satisfied with the tests of the 5 h.p. motor purchased; by the jjooker Printing Company, they I be permitted to retain the motor at priMiit hired to them by (he committee. Hi-; committee taking over the company's nev,' motor; that the Hooker Printing Company'be charged .£1 for the hire of the motor for two weeks, the company to pay the cost of disconnecting the motor m.the first instance and refixing the new motor; that the manager keep a tally of all extraordinary traffic on (!u> mad-through the abattoir reserve, and collect a charge of 0,1 pur ]„ad; thatHie borough engineer be instructed to submit an estimate of the cost of continuing to drain Xos. 1 and 2 paddocks.

ELECTRIC LIGHT COMMITTEE. The Electric Light Committee recommends, inter alia: That Ale-sis. J. 0. Roving'* tender of £1821; for the steel pipes, line and junction pipes, be accepted, and that they be asked to also supply expansion joints and anchor rings at a further cost of €130; that the electrical engineer be authorised to erect a temporary shed at the power house for use during the alterations; that the quotation of Messrs. Loving & Co. for pipe specials for £-28.1 be accepted; that the electrical engineer be instructed to extend the electric light mains to McLean street, Pitzroy,. via Xobs Lane, at an estimated cost of £4O. 2ofr, poles to be used: that the applicants for the extension of the mains to Mango.rei road and Kimu street. Fitzroy. be informed that provided the new loan is carried the extension will be proceeded wit],; ihiit 'Mr. .;. U'c.-t be informed that the Council cannot see its way to remit the charge against him for damaged electric light pole, hut under the special circumstances the charge will be reduced to £-2 on immediate payment being made; that, the action "of the chairman in ordering valves at a cost of £14.-> 7s from Mes.-r-. Richardsou. Blair and McCabe be confirmed; that- the construction of the forebav be proceeded with by day lnbor. Buttimore, Ambiiry and Gilbert, he appointed' to report upon the purchase of a watercart.
