MATTHEWS & BENNETT'S REPORT. I Matthews and Bennett report that at- I Mr. Maybc.'s sale on Tuesday last there j was a fair attendance of buyers, and l everything sold well. Prices were as ' follows:—Dairy cows £5 to. £9 15s, hull £lO, weaners £1 to 2l)s, sow and litter IT) I.ls. Sundries sold very well. At the Inglewood yards on Wednesday last there was a big yarding of- cattle, bidding being good for all classes and most hands changing hands at advanced prices on late sales. Calves made from £1 7s Od to £1 IDs. good yearlings £2 to £2 Ills (1(1, 15-moiiths heifers £:! Is \ to £3 ss, store cows £2 as to £4 ss, springing heifers £4 15s to £7, springing tows £4 to £8 17s M. ■SOUTHERN MARKETS. , BURNSIDE. At Burnside there was a medium entry of fat cattle, 169 being yarded. The quality all round was very fair. Owing to the presence of outside buyers, bidding was brisk, and prices showed a rise of from 10s to 15s per head; best bullocks £l2 10s to £l3 10s, extra good £l4 to £lO 2s (id, good £lO 10s to £ll 10s, light £8 10s to £9 10s, best cows and heifers £9 10s to £lO 10s, extra to £l2 12s Od, medium to good £7 10s to £8 10s, light £6 to £7. Eat sheep—3779 penned. The quality was very much below that of last week's entry. Practically no outside buyers were present, and the prices for prime, lines showed a decline of about Is per head. A large number of unfinished sheep were forward, liiit prices were balanced by the few graziers operating. Best weathers 22s Oil to 255, extra to 28s, medium to good 19s to 21s, light and unfinished 17s Od to 19s, best ewes 18s to 19s, extra to 21s 9d, good 14s (id I to 16s.

'Fat lambs —42 of good quality were penned, and prices ruled from 21s to 23s for best, down to 13s 3d for light. Pigs—About 120 penned, chiefly stores and suekers. Porkers and baconers were in short supply, and sold exceedingly well. Young pigs were also well competed for, and showed a distinct advance. Suckers 9s to 13s (id, slips 16s to 22s s<l, stores 22s Od to 255, porkers 30s to 38s, light baconers 44,s to 50s, heavy do. GOs to 81s, choppers to 1205.'

WANGANUI. Mcsrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report:— At our Wanganui sale we had a fair yarding of cattle and sheep, and have to report a rather dull sale for all classes. Fat wethers 19s 9d, mixed hoggets lis to 13s, small do. 7s 6d to Bs, store ewes 8s 4d to 9s, 2%-year steers SA Us ftd, store cows £2 19s 6d, dairy cows £5 to £5 16s to £7.

MASTERTON. Messrs Dalgety and Co. report having held their weekly sale at Masterton, when they offered a good yarding of both cattle and sheep. These met with a very ready sale, well up to vendors' ideas. The principal entry was on account of Mr. Jas. Cooper, of Carrington, Carterton, who has sold his farm. It comprised steers, ranging from 15months to four-year-old, while the sheep comprised hoggets and weathers. Woolly ewe hoggets made up to 25s 6d, woolly wether hoggets to. 14s 9d, ewes and wethers (mixed), 13s Od to IGs, fat wethers 19s, woolly hoggets (medium) 10s 7d to lis 7d, shorn hoggets 8s to 9s, poorer sorts to Os 4d, ewes and lambs to 12s 4d. Cattle: Four-year-old steers to £0 10s, three-year steers .to £5 Is, two-year steers to £4 12s, 15-months steers £3 to £3 4s; 20-months steers £3 18s to £4 Is, springing cows £8 to £9 10s, springing heifers £0 10s to £7 10s, cows in milk to £5 7s Od.

JOHXSOXVILLE. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonville sale as follows:—A heavy yarding of prime bullocks and extra quality sheep came forward. Cattle sold readily, but sheep met rather a dragging sale, though we disposed of nearly every pen before the sale finished.
