DISTRICT NEWS.
URUTI. (From Our Own 'Correspondent.) The recent frosts played havoc with the grass and early vegetables, but with the p.esent warmer conditions the feed will soon come away again. Generally,' cows are looking well. The Uruti Valley Co-operative Dairy Company have just installed a much larger chum, on account of the increased output. It will churn (lewt. of cream.
Mr. C. Smith, of Uruti, has been appointed assistant to the factory manager here.
A great convenience to pig raisers in this district will be the receiving yards at Urenui. The farmers will not get quite so much for the pigs, hut taking everything into consideration it should pay them better. A man will be able to take his milk to the-faetorv, load up his pigs, and then get back by'the evening. Carting pigs to Waitara is very trying, both to men and horses, and a farmer runs the risk of losing some pigs in the hot weather. Altogether it should be a success, and fanners will raise more pigs than formerly. It is rumored that Messrs. Jupp and Mallett have sold their store-keeping business, and intend leaving the district They will be much missed, having been resident in Ihese parts for manv years. It has not yet been divulged to whom the business has been sold.
