At the Lyell conference the only question discussed was reinstatement of the dismissed unionist. Mr. White, for the directors, intimated that they would not concede anything with regard to this case, Mr. White contending that the man had committed a serious breach of discipline. The men decline to recede from the position taken. The conference has disbanded.
SHEARERS' AWARD. Received t>, A.20 p.m. Sydney, October 0. Justice lfiggins has delivered an award in the shearing dispute. The award fixes the hours at not more than forty-eight per week. In regard to f-hcarmg wet sheep it provides that a shearer may legitimately refuse to shear liif-m if a majority of shearers- on a secret ballot decide against shearing. The award refuses preference to unionists for the present, but this decision will not affect any future application. The following minimum shearing fees were fixed —Where rations are not found, flock sheep, 24s per 100; rams and ram stags, •IS-;; stud ewes and their lambs. 30s. If rations are found: 10s per week less than the above rates; cooks. 50s; adult shepherds, 37s (Id: boys, 20s to 25s weekly, with keep added. Overtime is to be paid for at the rate of time and a half for the first two hours, and double rates afterwards.
