GOLF.

LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. By Telegraph—Press Association. ' i Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand ladies' championship meeting was continued to-day on the Heretaunga. links, which were in perfect order. Once again the weather was faultless, and everything was in favor of good golf. Most interest centred in the match between Mrs. Guy Williams (Masterton) and Mrs. Ronald Orbell (North Otago), and a great crowd of spectators, followed them round. It was a capital contest, although neither lady was quite at her best. Mrs. Williams held the lead in the earlier stages, and at the 13th hole was two up. Here she was stymied on the green, but when playing for an easy half had the bad luck to put her opponent's hall in, giving Mrs. Orbell the hole. This .seemed to put the Masterton player off her game, for s)Z cracked up badly by losing the 14th, missing an easy chance to win the 15th, and finally being beaten by 2 up. Mrs. Orbell made a very plucky fight when in a losing position and deserved her win. She is expected to take the finals, but next .round has to meet a very strong player in Miss Gould, of Otago. The latter player had a fairly easy task in defeating Mrs. Turnbuli. She is a very long driver, and is very steady all through, and will probably give Mrs. Orbell a great run for it. Miss Collins had her work cut out in l>eating Miss Camiipbelil. there being very little to choose between them on the long game, but the southern player showed weakness on the green, whilst at three holes she found trouble and had to pick up. Miss L. Brandon (Wellington) has been playing in excellent style all the week, and sho managed to get away with Miss Wood fairly easily. The game between Misses Brandon and Collins is expected to be remarkably close. The former has been showing the more attractive golf, but Miss Collins is picking up.her old form wonderfully. The New' Zealand champion is, however, hardly at her best, and the little Wellington (player should just about beat her. It will be a great game.

Following is the result of the fourth round:—

Miss Gould (Otago) beat Mrs. W. Turnbuli, (! up and 4 to pkv; Mrs, Ronald Orbell (North Otoga) beat Mrs. Guv Williams. 2 up; Miss L. Brandon (Wellington) beat Miss W r ood (Christchurch), 5 up and 4; Miss Collins (Wellington beat Miss N. Campbell (Christchurch), 3 and 2.

A bogey handicap was also played. Handicap 15 and under.—Miss Nora Brandon (11), all square; Miss Oowlishaw (9). 1 down; Mbs Dorothy Booth (9), 1 down; Mrs. Guy Williams (2), 1 down. Handicap 10 and over: Miss Gray (14), 2 up; Miss P. Anderson (17), 2 down; Mrs. Firth (18), 2 down. A game is to take place to-morrow between picked teams of eight from the North and South Islands. The North will be represented by a very hot team, and on paper their winning chance look very rosy.
