PAYMENT OF DUTY.
A TEST CASE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington. Thursday. A test case was decided by the Chief Justice to-day in which the Minister of Customs sued Ross and Glendining, Ltd., for £1 8s 8d additional duty due on exported goods, purchased at a certain price, which price had advanced by the time the boat left England some month* later. The Chief Justice held that duty waft paya-hle and must be assessed on the value as at the date of export and expom, did not take place till the vessel actually left. Duty therefore was due on the advanced value in t!ii- in-tance.
Judgment was for tin- Minister, with three »uinc;ts costs.
