i IRISH STRIKE DENOUNCED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright London, October 4. Mr. Burt, M.P., in a circular to the Nortlinmlieriand miners, denounces the Irish railway strike as arbitrary and ill-timed, and thus weakening the otherwise strong ease for the recognition of the union. Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald, in the Socialist Review, strongly attacks syndicalism and the general strike theory. RAILWAY STRIKES ENDED. Lond'on, October 4. The Great Southern and Western railway strike has been settled, the men withdrawing their claim not to handle blacklegs' goods, and apologising for striking. The company will reinstate the locomotive men and 00 per cent, of the others, and will retain the men employed during the strike. PROTEST AGAINST EMPLOYMENT OF SOLDIERS. Received 5, 11.35 p.m. London, October 5. The Amalgamated Railwaymen's Conference condemned the Government for permitting the Royal Engineers to drive trains in Ireland. CONFLICTS IN AMERICA. SEVERAL STRIKERS SHOT. Received 6, 1 a.m. New York, October 5. In connection with the strike of railwaymen, several conflicts occurred between the police and strikers in Mississippi, South Carolina, and several strikers were shot.
THE MT. LYELL TROUBLE. Sydney, October o. The Lyell conference sat in camera and adjourned till to-day without settlement. The executive at the Amalgamated Miners' Association at Melbourne decided to support the strikers. The Broken Hill miners telegraphed to the Lyell strikers not to go to Broken Hill, as hundreds arc out of work. -.: . i The mine managers declare that work is seriously hampered by lack of labor. Received 0, 1 a.m. Melbourne, October 5. The Mt. Lyell compulsory conference was renewed, but failed to arrive at an agreement. The/ president declared the conference closed.
