A SURF TRAGEDY

TWO BROTHERS DROWNED. The surf claimed two victims at Thirvoul (XS.W.) oh September 17th, two brothers losing their lives William Xieol, forty years of age., married, and residing at French street, McMahon's Point, and George Xieol, single, twentyfive, residing at Kooringa, Lindfield, and employed by Stott and Hoare, were in bathing, and after some time, were on their way out, when they were noticed by William Xicol's two little daughters to suddenly disappear. As they -did not appear again 'the children became alarmed and ran for assistance. A number of •persons searched up to dark, but no trace of the missing brothers could be found. It is presumed that the current must have carried the bodies to the north, as it was running in that direction. Both toothers liad been on a week-end visit to Thirroul. William and George Xieol were sons of the late air. W. Xieol, who carried on business as a watchmaker and jeweller for many years in JiivercargilL The former followed his father's trade for a number of years in lay street prior to removing to Sydney, where lie was in a good way of business at the time of his death. He leaves a widow and eight of a family, the eldest being a daughter twenty years of age. Mr. Xieol was a violinist joi no mean order, and was long a prominent member of the Tnvercargill Musical Union. Mr. George NicoC a younger member of the family, was a clever shorthand writer and typist, and was the sole support of his widowed mother and a sister.
