OFFICERS LEAVE A SHIP. By Telegraph—Press Association. Greymouth, Last Night. The twenty-four hours' notice served on the owners of small steamers by the Guild having expired without an agreement being arrived at, the mates on the steamer Putiki came ashore at midday. The question arose as to whether it was lawful for them to do so as Greymouth, river is a port. Captain Wahlstrom is waiting instructions before signing the discharge. The firemen and sailors requested a rise in wages from November Ist. Failing compliance a general strike is probable.
