Received 4. 11 p.m. Perth, OctoW 4.

FEDERAL PARLIAMENT. Melbourne, October -4. The Assembly passed a Bill authorising a loan of two million for public works, chiefly railways, tramways and roads. The Acting-Premier promised a deputation to recommend a public inquiry into the high price of gas. In the Federal House of Representatives, in reply to a question, Mr. Batchelor stated that £2150 had been paid to the Independent Cable Association as a subsidy on press cables. The advantage which accrued from the increase of business over the Pacific cable was a gain to the Commonwealth amounting to £2IOO annually. There was also an increase in the postal revenue for the transmission of messages on land lines. Altogether the Commonwealth would get about three times the amount paid as subsidy. The Federal Government was paying Burns, Philip & Co. £5520 subsidy on the New Hebrides mail service.
NEW SOUTH WALES PARLIAMENT. Sydney, October 4. The Assembly dealt with four motions of dissent from the Speaker's ruling. All were defeated. The debates lacked interest, and the House was counted out on the last.
