KINDERGARTEN SCHOOLS
A NEW DEPARTURE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At the Normal School this morning a new 'kindergarten department in connection with the Students' Training College wns opened, and a fairly large number of children between the ages of three and five years attended. The regulations issued by the Education Department this year provide that a kindergarten of not more than forty children may be added to the present organisation of training colleges for teachers, and the North Canterbury Board decided to take advantage of the provision. It is 'expected that about thirty children will 'be in attendance to-morrow. About twenty-live years ago there was a flourishing kindergarten at the Normal school, but education grants were reduced and the board was forced to close it. It is intended to make a:, strong endeavor to enlarge the acccommodation at Normal schol, so that the work may be carried out under the best possible conditions on the lines -'of the successful kindergartens in Europe.
