The second day of the A..LC. spring meeting was favored with fine, warm weather and a very large attendance. | The going was good. Results:— j Shorts Handicap.—Hot Air, 8.10, 1; Volsloane, B.fl, 2; Malthusian, 7.12. 3. Nineteen started, including Sharpshooter and Sunburnt. Culprit was the first to move, Popinjay, with Culprit and Sunburnt, being nearest. Hot Air quickly took charge, and led into the straight from Popinjay. Volsloane put in a claim opposite the Leger. Then ensued a good finish, Hot Air winning the verdict by a neck, Malthusian being beaten by a length. Time, lmin. H'/tSec.
Clibborn Stakes.—Jacamar 1, Pontana 2. Woolerina 3. Twelve started. Posio and Ladies' Man were the quickest on their feet. Ladies' Man took charge at the back from Pontana. The latter was in front at the five furlongs, and led into the straight from Ladies' Man and Ocean Blue. Jacamar, with a late run, won a great race by a head and a half, a length between second and third. Time, lmin.
The Metropolitan Handicap Sweepstake. with £3500 added; 1.% .miles.— Malt Kins. 0.1 (Black). 1; Lady Medallist, 8.0 (Harnett). 2; Hartfell, 7.0 (Turner), 3. The non-starter?, were: Finvinius, Bl&irgour, Cisco, Sequarious, Salvatorrosa and fiideiel. From a good start, Wond and Vice-Admiral were the first to show out. Passing the stand the order was, Vice-Admiral. Britain. Woad. Malt King, Flava and Los Angelos. At the quarter-mile, Woad was leading from Vice-Admiral. Britain, Flava, Malt King and Boranibil. Before reaching the mile, Vice-Admiral had taken charge from Britain, Woad, Boramil and Los Angelos. Along the back Britain and Vice-Admiral were still in the lead, with Piastre, Malt
Kin«r• and Lady Medallist the nearest. At t.hp five furlongs. Vice-Admiral was in charge from Borambil, Britain. Flava, Medallist, Malt - Kins. Los Angelos and Bridge. There was little change at the half-mile. Britain being the most prominent. followed by Flava, Medallist. Malt King. Borambil and Los Angelos. Round the bend Viee-Admiral piloted Medallist. Britain, Flava. Borambil and Malt King. Into the straight, Vice-Admiral and Britain showed the wnv clear to Malt King, I'lava and Didus. At the distance Flava was leading from Malt King. Vice-Ad-miral and Medallist. A good finish was fought out. the race being won by two lengths, a length and a half between'second and third. Then came Piastre, Cadonia. Britain, Wood and Sandbath. with Lady Lucy and Duke Foote last. Time, 2niin. 3.>i/ 4 soc.
First Steeplechase, of 300 sovs, about 2'/„ miles—Lea Kleslma, 10.fi. 1; Uaufapu, 10.4. 2: Loch Fyne. M.O, 3, Xine started. Only three finished. Hautapu made the running over the last hurdle, being beaten by three lengths. Loch Fvne 30 yards away. Time, omin. 34sec. Breeders' Plate, of 100 sovs., for two-year-olds; five furlongs.— Ventura, 1: Rathkealc, 2 ; Dromore, 3. Twenty-seven started. Gauntlet, with Ventura, and Rathkeale its nearest attendant, led the bunched field to the bend. Here Ventura went to the front, was never overhauled, anil won by a length. Dromore was similarly beaten. Time, lmin 3y 2 sec. Squatters' Handicap.—Flaxen. 8.9~ I; Safraiio. 8.7. 2; Flamen. 7.0. 3. Seventeen started, including Genius. Won bysix lengths. Time, 2min. 7%sec. Received 2, 11 p.m. Sydney. Last Night. Los Angelos made no showing in the Metropolitan Handicap, and finished in the ruck.
