HOT DISCUSSION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Saturday. At the annual meeting of the Auckland Society of Arts last night, a. long dismission concerning the Elam School ol Art, now situated in the municipal building*, ended in the defeat of the old committee and the resignation of several members. A deputation from the old committee lmd, it appears, protested to the City Council against granting any more space to the Elam School. Mr. J. 11. Upton moved a resolution deprecating the action of the committee, anil after a hot discussion this was carried. Several upholders of the action of the committee alleged that there was grant danger ifrom lire through the Elam School being 'where it was, M,r. T. W. Leys asserting that if a Are started nothing could save the valuable art collections in the buildings. When the voting for officers showed that the president, Mr. George Geonge, was defeated, wholesale resignations lollowed, and the sccedcrs now talk of starting a rival society.
