A London cablo states thai. Alderman Sir T. B. Crosby has boon elected Lord Mayor of London. A Sydney cablegram reports that Madame Melba is making a good recovery from her attack "o,f bronchitis, and expects to be able to sing oarly next week. Mr. A. H. Johnstone, who has been resident partner in the .firm of Ma,lone, Anderson, and Johnstone for the past five years, has taken over their New Plymouth practice as from to-day. iA London cable reports the death of Lord Xo'i'thcote, -who was taken ill suddenly while entertaining Princess Christian at Eastwell Park. Lord Northeote was second son of the Earl of Jddesleigh ('better known as Kir Stratford Northcote). .lie was Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia from 1903-8. Ho was 04 years of age, and married to the adopted daughter of Lord Mount Stephen. He leaves no heir. A further wire states that Lord Northeote was ill for months, but moved about until he took to bed on Tuesday, and gradually grew weaker.
