Peculiarly enough, the exchange opened thirty years ago -with thirty subscribers, anil lias now over 3000. The Cliristclutroh Telephone Exchange was the first to be opened in the Dominion, arid it is indieiitivc <\f the enterprise of ilie citizens that it was opened a.bout four' years after the praeticablonoss of the telephone was demonstrated. The next citv to acquire «n exchange was Auckland, then Dunediti followed, ;md then Wellington.
