XOTIiS ON THE MEETING'. (By "MotuToa.") Wanganui, Last Night. Heavy rain fell all the morning, but cleared' oil' after the third race, milking matters more pleasant .for racegoers. The track was holding, but was not bad. Merrie Frank was favorite for the Owen Handicap, but bad no chance with Royal Scotch, who won all the way. True .Shot got the worst .of the start, . but struggled into third place. Tiwsiri created a surprise by winning the Railway Hack Handicap after an interesting race with Ireland, who was an odds-on favorite. The public went solidly for Espartero in the Brunswick Hurdles. After leading to the turn, the weight told. Gaelic came with a brilliant run and beat Reumac comfortably. Waipaku had most .backers in the Hack Hurdles, and with Ambergris made the running for a mile, then met with interference. Caiptain Bell took the lead and won after a great race with Highden. The latter covered too much ground and ran wide at the bends, otherwise he would have just about won. Hawick could not get going with his big load. and finished well back. The bracketed pair, Boanerges and Kilosteri, carried a little more money ; than Meindip in the Higgie Handicap, and Ladv Men-chikolT was .solidly supported. The start was a straggling one, Boanerges jumping out in front aim Kauroa, Mendip and Montiform getting the worst of it. Boanerges practically led all the way and won by over a length from the fast-finishing Kauroa. Kilosteri was a dose third, just heading a big bunch, with Mendip last. The Hack Handicap was voted a moral for Labor Day. Deeley brought her through at the* head of the straight and she had no difficulty in stalling ofT a late run by Otahu. Iranui and Countermine monopolized the betting in the Marangai Handicap. From a beautiful start Miscal led along the back. Iranui challenged at the turn and Ooromandel came up on the rails. In a great race up the straight Miseal | battled out gamely and won bv nearly a length. Countermine, Smilax and Te Roti were never dangerous. Winners were hard to pick throughout the day. | CANTERBURY J.C. NOMINATIONS.
