Competition was keen and the slock. being in flood demand, sold as follows:—Cows at profit and close up ,18 to £ls ss, later £5 to ,1.7 15s, emptv £3 10s to £5, springing heifers £5 17s Od to £8 10s, eraj)t,v £4 10s to £4 15s, Shorthorn bull £-0 os, Jersey light draught horses £l7 to £22, bacon pigs ' 365. waggon £lB, gig £l7 ss. Sundries sold at usual rates.
At my Stratford sj,ringing-heifer sale on Tuesday, 20th inst,.. there'was a fair yarding of dairy cattle, which were disposed of ifit the following rates:—Springing heifers £4 12s Od'to ,t\S I2s fid. Jersey do. £9, heifers (calved) £4 10s to £0 os, dairy cows (close up) £0 to .£!), do. (calved) £8 to £8 las. On the same day I. held mv usual fortnightly sale at "Rahotu, when there was a good yarding of all classes, which sold at the following rates:—Mixed yearlings 33s to £2 Bs, yearling steers 38s to £2 10s, yearling heifers 35s to £2 10s, empty heifers £3 15s to £3 19s Od, 2-year steers £3 3s, springing heifers £4 8s to £0 7s Od, store cows £2 10s to £3 12s fid, forward cows £3 17s to £4 18s, springing cows £4 10s to £7 Is, bulls £3 5s to £2 Bs. A Tlolstein hull, sold on account of Mr. R. Morrow, realised £23.
On Wednesday, 27th inst.. at Mr. X. J. Hamblyn's clearing sale at Reaeons(iekl road, there was a good attendance, and the cows, which were mostly Hol-stein-Jersey, were keenly competed for. The three pedigree Jerseys sold as follows, after some very keen bidding:— Bull, "Olovis," 28'/> guineas; cow, "Nelly's Darling," 2<i>/ 2 gns.j heifer, "Bella's Lady," 38gns. Cows at profit and close up made £8 5s to £M ss, later £5 to £7 os, springing heifers £0 10s to £ll 10s, trap horses from £25 10s to £33, calves from 2s (id to 10s, porkers 21s to 255, sow 27s fid. gig £ls, 'dray £5 10s, jack £4, discs £7 lis fid, plough £5 5», chaff-cutter £3 2s Od.; Sundries sold well.
At my fortnightly sale at Waiwakailio on Thursday there was a good yarding of all classes, nearly all yarded being quitted at the following prices: Mixed yearlings -28s fid to 3fis (id. yearling steers 23s to 30s Gd, do. (good 'line) £2 10,s Oil, 2-vear steers £3 5s Od, yearling heifers £5 to £0 12s (id. store'cows .€2 10s to £3 lis, forward cows £3 17s to £4-, cows (calved) £5 5s to £0 15s. springing cows £5 7s Od to £lO 10s! ewes and lainbs 12s Od to 15s Od. goats I '
MATTHEWS & BENNETT'S lIRPORT. •Matthews anil Bennett report that on Wednesday last, there was a good entry of cattle in their Inglewood yards. Prices were as follows:—Yearlings (pood) £2 Bh to £2 10s. (id. small do. 25s to 37s Gd, store cows £2 7s to £3 is, springers (good) £7 to £B. second grade do. ,C 3 to £.">. dairy cows £4 to £B, bulls £4 10s to £,->/ SOUTHERN MARKETS. MASTERTON. Messrs Dalgetv and Co., Ltd., report having held their weekly i-ale at Mftsterton, when they offered a small yarding of sheep and cattle. Among the sheep was a special line of 12 fat lambs (the first of the season), which brought from 13s Gd to 14s 6<l» The cattle entry comprised all young steel's, which met with good competition. Vcurlings realised .CI Is to £3 (is. 20-nionths steers £3 17s (id. ADDINGTON. At Aldington were in'oderate entries of stock, and a good attendance.
Store sheep—Wethers were somewhat firmer, and there was a pood demand for ewes and lambs. The better class of ewe hoggets sold up to Us 7d. smaller 12s 4d, mixed sexes lis 7d to 12s fid, full-mouth ewes and lambs 8s 7d to (Is 7<l (all counted), half-bred wethers 12s lOd to 13s Bd. Fat lambs —Better sorts made l.is to 21s. smaller 9s to 14s 3d. Fat sheep—Extra prime wethers to 325, prime 21s Gd to 2(is, others 18s to 21s, extra prime ewes to "Is fid. prime 18s (id to 23s (id. others 14s _Bd to ISs. hoggets 14s lOd to 2fis !)d, merino wethers 17s Gd to 21s Id. extra to 22s 9d. Beef—Steers made ,C 7 10s to £ll, extra to £ls 7s fid, heifers £0 to £lO, extra to £l2. These prices were equal to 30s to 35s for prime, to 40s for extra. 20s to 2!)s for medium, and 25s fid to 2fis Gd for eow and inferior per 1001b. The entry of veal calves was made up chielly of small sorts, and they sold at 4s fid. to 50s. one well-finished yearling making £5 ss. Cattle —Yearlings made 30s to 3(is fid. 15 to 18-months £2 5s to £2 7s fid, two-year steers £3 3s to £3 15s, twoyear heifers £3 12s to £3 15s. five-year steers £5 2s to £5 7s Gd, four-year heifers £4 5s to £4 Gs, dry cows 20s to £5 7s (id. Good dairy cows were in demand, prices ranging from £3 10s to £ll 10s.
Pigs—The yarding of fat pif.'s showed an increase in numbers, and prices were consequently easier. Choppers made £2 10s to £5, heavy baconers £3 to £3 15s. lighter 47s Gd to 55s (equal to s '/id to o%d per lb) : large porkers 37s Gd to 455. smaller 30s to 35s (equal to 5%d per lb. Store pigs were also entered in large numbers nnd they met with a fair demand, several outside buyers being present. Large sorts made 2-ls to 2Ss, medium 18s to 235, smaller 12s to 15s, weaners 8s Gd to 12s <id„
KUIiXSIIIK. At Tiurnsido 174 fill cattle were yarded, ohielly bullocks of good (|uality, with a few pens of well-finished heifers and rows. Fat sheep —-1000 penned. The majority were well-finished wethers, with a few pens of extra prime and heavy. the balance being medium to small unliuished sheep. At the commencement of tlic sale the bidding was slow, although all prime sheep sold fairlv well, but as the sale, progressed competition became keener, and prices all round were about on a par with those ruling last week. Host wethers 23s to "2s fid. ewes 20s to 225, good IS- to Ills, medium 14s to Ife Fat. lambs —20 nice quality lambs were yarded, and sold under good competii ion up to 21s. PiR 5 —200 penned. Stores were slightly easier than la-t week, but, fat.-, were vcrv linn, at late rates.
