I Campbell and Paton's ■winning design for the Parliamentary buildings is in 'English renaissance style, and the esti- ' mated cost will not exceed ,-€185,000 in one class of stone, or £105,000 in su- | perior stone. The principal feature of the front elevation is a stone staircase forty feet wide flanged by two groups of statuary. The stairway (will extend beyond the main frontage, and bo 'flanked on cither side by long colonnades of lonic capped pillars ten feet wide at either end of the building. Pavilions will project out beyond'the colonnade. Over the main front staircase will be a dome 35ft in diameter. The ground floor will comprise committee rooms and menvbers' rooms. The principal floor, with members' lobby, library, and the legislative chambers, will be fourteen feet above. A broad lobby will be in the centre of the building immediately opposite the entrance, with the Council chamber at one end and the H«use of Representatives at the other. These will be lofty and provided with celestory roofs, with cross ventilation provided. The galleries will be similar to, but larger than, those in the old House of Representatives. The press quarters comprise a writing-room, adjoining the press gallery, and a genera! room, all being self-contained.
