XOTES ON THE MEETING. (By Telegraph—"Moturoa.") Wanganui, Last Night. The Wangamii spring meeting opened in anything but spring l weather. Bain threatened «U day, tout the attendance was large and speculation brisk. The racing was interesting, and the finishes close and exciting. The Taranaki horses, Master Sylvia, Patriotic, Lady <MenschikofF and Jargon, paid good dividends. The proceedings opened with the Flying Handicap, Equitas being the, only withdrawal. Boanerges and Faunus carried most money, and led to the bend, where Merrie Frank took the lead. Master Sylvia joined at the distance. It was a' great finish. The Taranaki horse won by' a head, Boanerges a close third, Faunus fourth.
Nothing but Ireland was supported in the Maiden. Praefectns broke the line, but the favorite nt once streaked out, and was never headed. Jargon finished fast and caught Topic on the poet. Royal Scotch was a better favorite than' Miscount for the Guineas. Miscount made all the running till fifty yairds from 'home, where Counterfeit ilrow level, ami won a great race by a head. Koyal Scotch was .beaten at the turn, mud Labor Day, who got the worst of the start, ran in the rear all the way. Waiputere was most in demand for the Okehu' Hurdles. Espartero led all the way, and won comfortably from the favorite. Lcolanter was last.
ttaptnin Bcl'l was better backed than Hawick in the Hack Hurdles. The pair fought out a great finish, Hawick winning by a length. Highden, who came from the rear in the straight, was third. Tina Too broke down.

Goodwin Park assumed the lead and Lady Mcnschikoif came from a long way back. Goodwin Park won by half « length, with Coromaiulel and The Iloiver clo?e up. The weather promises pood for the second dwy.
