Minister for Works in the Lauricr Ministry, was elected by a majority of two, but a recount lias been demanded. Mr. Lemieux was defeated for the Gaspe constituency. The only ministers returned arc Mr. Oliver Pugsley and Sir Wilfrid Laarier. The result is unprecedented. It is expected that Mr. McKcnzie King will contest one of the deferred elections.

Mr. Bourassa, the Nationalist leader, states that his party will maintain an attitude of complete independence. He emphasises his loyalty to the British Crown, but asserts the necessity of Canadian autonomy for the protection of minorities. Bickcrdike, a well-known Liberal member, when asked who defeated the Liberals, replied: "I don't remember his name; he is dead long ago. He is the man who wrote 'Rule Britannia.'" His carriage was drawn through the streets by hundreds of men, the decorations used being chiefly Union Jacks.
