MONTHLY MEETING. 'Jlia Education Board continued its Kiltings yesterday morning. Present: Messrs 11. Trimble (chairman), Adlam, Yo::iig, Cargill, Rogers, Morton and Rev. Mc'AHhur. WHANGAMOMONA SCHOOL. The Secretary for Education wrote as follows: —'""With reference to your application for a grant for the enlargement of the W'hangamomona School, I sec that the attendance for the past three years has risen gradually from 11 to 13, which may be presumed to be about the normal population of the place. The sudden increase to id, due to the influx of railway workmen, being obviously of a. temporary character, ought, if possible, to be provided for in a temporary manner. Has the Board considered the feasibility of again making use of the hall, in which the school was held prior to Che erection of the present school building?"

The Department notified that the request for an allowance for the erection of a teacher's residence at York had been acceded to.

Mr. W. J. Smith, secretary of the Kaimafa- Committee, wrote at some length regarding the difficulty experienced by the committee in obtaining possession of the books and cash belonging to a special fund, initiated by a former committee for specific purposes The Board derided that it could not interfere in- the matter, this being apart from the regular work of the school. The overseer was instructed to carry out necessary repairs at the Ngaer'e school and residence and to erect a bathroom at the residence.

It was decided to apply to the Department for grants for improving the Koru. Warea and Tarurntangi residences.

The Iturrangi Committee was granted permission to remove the gallery in the school. A letter from the West End Committee regarding extension of the playground was held over for further information. A letter from the Waitara Committee regarding fencing of the school grounds was referred to Mr. Halcombe fur a report. The Mangorei Committee was granted a £ for £ subsidy, up to £5. for the improvement of the school ground?. fn reply lo an application from the Urcnui Committee, the Board decided to supply material for repairing fences and to grant a. £ for £ subsidy, up to £(i. for improving the school ground, as well as a quantity of grass seed. The Inglewood Committee, having a balance of £lO in hand from a fund raised for the purchase of a piano, which is now in the school, asked the Board to give a £ for £ subsidy on this amount, for (he purchase of fire ironframed seats for the school grounds.—

The Board declined the rcquo-t, on the ground that, there were more urgent calls on ils funds.

An application from the Bird Committee for additions to the school was referred to (he. inspector for a report. The sume course was adopted with regard to letters from the Huirangi. Lincoln and Norfolk Committee re desks. and to a letter from the Bell Committee re the windows at the school.
