MOKAU LANDS.
YESTERDAYS SITTING OF THE ENQUIRY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington. Tuesday. The Mokau Committee resumed this morning to hear a statement .by Mr. Jones. Mr. Jennings (chairman) intimated that .the statement should lie confined to the matter before the committee. Mr. Jones said he prepared a short synopsis from 1870 to the present day, and would like the committee to hear it. t Mr. Jennings reiterated the statement would have to be confined to the papers forming the subject matter of . the inquiry. Mr. Jones' story was, he said, as well known as Robinson Crusoe's. He suggested that Mr. Jones should again petition Parliament. The committee would not allow matter from 1870 to be traversed.
Mr. .(ones said he wanted (o produce the Stout-Palmer report and comment on it. ~ Eventually the committee decided to adjourn the further hearing till Thursday, to give Mr." Jones an 'opportunity of recasting his statement; to begin at the time when the negotiation; were opened hy Mr. Herman Lewis.
