SPORTING

TCRF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") First-rate acceptances wore received on Monday night for all events to be decided on tlie opening day of the Wanganui .1 ockey Club's* Hiring meeting tomorrow, and in most cases the races appear to be very open. Very few of the visiting horses put in an appearance last week, but on Monday. The Highden team came along on Monday morning. and later in the day Trainer 11. Cutts arrived with Countermine and Counterfeit. In the evening Ormond's, Watt's and F. Higgott's horses reached here, and yesterday every train brought more champions-. The tracks have been very quiet, the showery weather uplotting training operations somewhat, but Royal Scotch, Boanerges, Countermine and Faunus look bright and well. The, Taranaki horses have stood their ground, and St. Toney, Tmesliot. Master Sylvia, Compass, Mulga Bill, Smilax and others are bound to take a good haml in the settlement of the various races. Most of the Taranaki horses arrived on Tuesday, but Dick Johnson is not taking Shuja down until to-day. The tracks are in fine order, and if the present showery weather gives over, the spring meeting of 1911 should be a thing to remember.

Royal Scotch promises to start a hot order in the Wangamii Guineas, and other horses most talked about are Boanerges, Sniilax, Sandy Paul and Faunus:

At least one race at Otaki on Saturday was a queer one. Tlic Palmers ton scribes, "G'eraint," writes:—The President's Ifaudicap was somewhat of a fiasco, owing to Floater currying away the tapes and interfering with fully haif the starters, who were eased up 'o get rid of the obstacle. Equitas, whilst thiwas going on, was streaking away, and when Projectile set after her she was fully thirty lengths ahead. With such a speedy mare as Equitas concerned it looked any odds that she would not be caught, but at the far turn Projectile rapidly made np lost ground, and at the turn for home wns on terms. In the run to the post he scored by a length. Subsequently the stewards held an enquiry into the running of Equitas, but after hearing the statements of Mt. •T. Bull (owner) and T. Pritchard (rider), decided there was not sufficient groui.-l for further action. Equitas was fairly well backed on the machine.
