Mr. Wade, in a strong fighting speech, claimed that the party was thoroughly united and prepared to take the field in the appeal to the country which the situation demanded. In the Assembly Mr. Wade moved,a censure motion to the effect that the Premier's statement regarding public business was unsatisfactory and at vari-> anee with the previous statements made on behalf of the Government, and which constituted a breach of faith. The debate was listless. PREFERENCE TO UNIONISTS. Melbourne, September 2/5. Tho Federal Cabinet, at a lengthy sitting, discussed the censure motion. It is understood the Labor members will declare straight out for preference to unionists, without limitation. A meeting of the Employers' Federa- ; tion discussed the situation. The president declared that proof positive had been given that the country was now, for al! practical purposes, governed by the trades Hull and Political Labor Councils, not by Parliamentary representatives. 1 lie climax had been reached by the proclamation of absolute preference to unionists. A resolution was adopted that the federation viewed the action of the Government with the gravest concern.

In the Uou.-e of Representatives, Mr. Deakin moved a vote of censure regarding the |iiefc rence to unionists policy, lie siiiil the transformation was violent and unprecedented. Preference applied by a political body as part of political action was absolutely undefensible.
