STRIKES IN IRELAND
TROOPS GUARDING RAILWAYS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, September 24. Troops are guarding Cork Tunnel and Limerick Junction. Five thousand boilermakers unanimously voted for the abolition of the premium bonus system in the engineering and shipbuilding trade. Unanimous votes were likewise cast by the combined smiths, coppersmith and Birmingham street metal-workera.
EFFORTS TO BRING ABOUT PEACE.
HALF RAILWAY CORPS ORDERED TO IRELAND. Received 25, 9.50 p.m. London, September 25. It is not clear whether the Irish strike has spread or collapsed. The Earl of Aberdeen (Lord Lieutenant) and Mr. Mitchell, representing the Board of Trade, are engaged in peace efforts. The War Office sends to Dublin half a railway corps from Aldershot to drive, if necessary, troop and mail trains. Troops have been ordered to protect Thuries and Ballyhrophy. Five hundred Belfast. laihvaytnen have resolved to strike to-day., . The directors minimise the trouble, and declare- that the passenger service is unaffected. STRIKE EXECUTIVE CONDEMNED. Received 25, 9.30 p.m. London, September 25. The Wexford branch of the Amalgamated Railwaymen unanimously condemned the executive for calling a general strike in Ireland, instead of in the United Kingdom.
