NEW COASTAL STEAMER
FOP. THE PATEA SIIIPPINa CO.'S FLEET. Auckland, Septcml>er t'. A steamer to the order of the I'irtea Shipping Co., Ltd., which Mr. \V. H. Brown is building, will be lauriciirsl about the middle of next month. Thi& boat is 100 ft, overall, 20ft beam,"and 7ft din dept of liold. She is very strongly built on the diagonal principle. .Her keel and kelsons arc of ironba-rk, with- kauri, bilge kelsons. The engines and boiler are being supplied by Messrs. Fra*er and Son-, of Auckland. The -formef are compound, 'to indicate 200-h.p., and the boiler will have a working pressure of 1301b. The vessel will be insulated and thtej with a refrigerator, while there will besome lfiOOft of piping in the holds, capable of dealing with 1100 quarters of beef or .1500 carcases of mutton, vliieli quantity the vessel's holds are arranged to carry. On deck she will be fitted with two winches and the latest appliance* fop dealing with the large butter and cheesetrade between Patea aud Wellington. The vessel will have steam steeringgeer supplied and fitted by 'Messrs. .1. J, Xiven and Co.. of Napier. She was designed bv Mr. L. Bennett, superintendent engineer to the Paten Shipping Co.. and will be ready for sea by, the end ofXovcmber.
