CRICKET
UNITED SERVICE CLUB. The annual general meeting of the United Service Club was held in the Town Hall last evening. Mr. Di;miss presided over a good attendance of members. Tho annual report was read. The club entered one team for the Saturday competition, and were successful in winning the competition. The following members were chosen for representative honors: Messrs. Osborne, Wood and Bowles, but the two latter were unable to play, failing to obtain the necessary leave of absence. During the year the club lost several good players, including E. Bowles, W. Wood and others. Several new members joining litis season would help to keep up the, prestige of the club. Tho committee congratulated Messrs. Wood and Bain upon their fine performances last year, the former having headed the bowling, and the latter the batting average. It will be seen that there was a small credit balance, in addition to a' fair stock of material. The club thanks both papers for the excellent reports of matches and space allotted to the game. The following officers were-elected:— President, Mr. N. K. McDiarmid; vicepresidents, Dr. Fookes, Rev. S. S. Osborne, Messrs. Terry, Glasgow and Gordon; club captain, 0. E. Dinniss; secretary and treasurer, D. G. Napier; auditor, AV. J. T. Wiggs; delegate to Association, Mr. Bain; committee, club captain, secretary, and Messrs. Bain, Mackuy and Wiggs; selection committee, club captain and Messrs. Bain and Mackay. The following new members were elected: Messrs. Grigor, Rossiter, Newall, Blenkinsopp. The annual subscription was fixed at •20s, reducable to 17s fld if paid before December 1; playing members under 20 years of age, 7s 6d; and honorary*members, 2s Od per annum. It was decided to open the season on the 30th iast. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the ipress for the manner in Which they reported cricket matches.
were entertained at a dance in the evening, when all seemed to enjoy themselves. During Ui» evening, trophies were presented by Air. Mills on behalf of the Kaitake 'llifles to the winner of the last trophy contest. Hilleuian F. Mace was presented with a silver cup, donated by Mr. Bennett, of New Plymouth;' Mr. W. West, a medalj and Mr. Gyde a pair of shoes. Mr. C. Mace presented Mr. Mills with a pair of pipes, given by the Kaitake Rifles as a small token of their appreciation of his handicapping. Mr. Mills has always handicapped for them, and has always given satisfaction. Mr. Mills suitably responded. Mr. Pearson, of Omata, and Mrs. Cameron, of Oakura, kindly gave their services as musicians. The gathering broke up at about 2.30, all going lionie thoroughly satisfied that I hey had a pleasant evening.
