Mr. Dent, manager of the flouthRailway, giving evidence be- ' fore the Conciliation Commission, stated that conciliation would be accepted on the understanding that both sides agreed thereto in lieu of the recognition of the union. No legislation could prevent striking, and no legislation should be introduced placing railwaymen at a disadvantage as compared with other workers.
