' A number of election results have still to come. The latest available give the Conservatives 113 seats, the Independents 12, and the Liberals 88. A SIGNIFICANT FEATURE. SIR WILFRID LAURIER RETIRING. DISAPPOINTMENT IN UNITED STATES. Received 23, 12.30 a.m. ■A «• Ottawa, September 22. A significant feature of the elections Was the defeat of the Ministers. Lavish promises were made in the '«* Tarious cities, that great public works •would be undertaken if the Ministers were victorious. Sir "Wilfrid Laurier is unwilling to lead th« Opposition in the new House, i : and his retirement is practically decided. There is great disappointment in the ■United States over the result of the elections.

The Parliament consists of an Upper House, styled the Senate, consisting of 87 members, and the House of Commons, comprising 221, the provinces being represented as follows:—Ontario 86, Quebec 65, Nova Scotia IS, New Brunswick. 13, Manitoba 10, British Columbia 7, Albert-7, Saskatchewan 10, Prince Edward Island 4, and Yukon 1. Each province has also a separate legislature. The election was fought on the reciprocity treaty arranged by the Government with the United States, and the defeat of the Government means the defeat of the proposals; hence the disappointment in America.
