THE CHURCH'S DECAY

STATEMENT BY A BISHOP. By Gable—Press Association—Copyright. London, September 20. . The Bishop of Carlisle, addressing the Diocesan Conference, declared there was no incorporate relation between Christianity and the world to-day. The result was the deadness, if not the approaching death, of Christianity. Theological colleges sent forth men steeped in caste feeling, and unable to speak or preach with conviction. The emptiness of the churches was partly due to the stereotyped and anarchronistic theology. Idolatrous money worship, with a decreasing sense of the dignity of labor, were producing industrial unrest and even despair amongst the lower classes.
