Stolypin, on his deathbed, received the following telegram from Berlin, signed by Bogroff's unhappy parents: "We are horrified at the dreadful deed perpetuated by our senseless son. Wc pray to God for your complete recovery." The father was afterwards arrested on the frontier. The Czar, in a rescript, states that "the expressions of indignation reaching us from all sides show that all rightminded people share -our resentment at the ruthless outrage committed in our presence. The Prime Minister was my true and courageous champion." A post-mortem examination revealed that the bullet shattered a rib and pierced the liver.
