A HEAVY PASSAGE. 810 mws FIG [IT AG AINST THE STORM. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The steamer Jndralcma came in from Napier this afternoon forty-eight hours late. She had a heavy passage, and at one time was for over iweuty hours only making one mile an hour with full steam ahead. Captain Wilkes was on the 'bridge practically the whole time since his ship cleared Napier at 4.30 p.m. on Monday, and over twenty hours were occupied in trying to get round Cape Palliser. The Indralcma W ns kept well out to sea, ami no fierce was the gale that for a considerable time she had to remain hove to. Heavy seiu were shipped fore ami aft, and the engines raced very heavily in spite of the fact that the governors were on. All gear was lashed to the deck, hut nevertheless everything moveable was swept about by the seas, much of it being lost overboard. 'During- the height of the gale mountainous seas crashed on -board', smashing the butcher's shop to pieces, and sweeping it and a half ton of meat overboard. The bulwarks were broken in .several places, and the derrick carried away. One of the crew was washed against the ventilator, and was severely bruised in places. He was attended to on board, and is progressing satisfactorily. Till? GALE ABATING. Wellington, Thursday. The gale and sea have greatly decreased. Most of the overdue steamers, including the Indralcmu, which had a rough ami long passage from Napier, have reached port, and other vessels have got out safely.
