TARAXAKI AS SI Ml A'flOX. A meeting of the Taraiviki Lawn Tennis Association was held mi Tuesday afternoon at the lion, sieretarv's office. Present: Messrs. J. 0. Nicholson (in the chair), J. Morton, H. Stocker, White, mid J. Paton (lion, secretary). The report and, balance-sheet, as presented, were read and adopted. Hie report said: It is with pleasure that I am able to place before you a. balance-sheet showing a credit balance of 1-! i 14s Gd, which is exceedingly, satisfactory. There are now fifteen clubs belonging to the association, and probably two more will join shortly. Miss Brewster won the iadies' Tariinaki championship singles, and A. 0. Wallace the men's championship singles. The annual interprovincial contest between Taranaki and Auckland fell through owing to Auckland failing to send a team. To keep the interest in tennis alive and improve the play of the younger members, more inter-club matches should be played, and the association should make an efl'ort to arrange for a tournament to be held, sav, in March at Ilawera, that town being the most central place, between teams representing the various clubs. Mr. Paton, who has acted as honorary secretary for the past seven years, is unable to again accept office. The following officers were elected: President, Dr. H. B. Leatham; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. 11. Stocker; lion, auditor, Mr. W. C. Weston; delegates to the Xew Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs. Devenish, Spilsbury and Dixon.
A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring secretary for his seven years' service as hou. secretary to the association.
