TARANAKI LAND BOARD
SECOND DAY. Thi> meeting of the Land Board was concluded yesterday, when there were present: Messrs. W. Armstrong, Commissioner (presiding), Hislop and Kennedy. The Under-Secretary for Lands wrote, stating that the mutter of remission of rent on transfer of sections under Sec. 1-7 of tli-e Land Act, 1908, was a matter for the Land Board to decide.—lt was resolved that on the disposal of a half interest, one 'half of 4he rent conceded be demanded.
The application of K. A. Johansen and D. Finnigan for Crown Lands in blk. 6, Aria, was considered, and it was resolved to inform them that the survey will be made as soon as possible, so that the land may be offered at the earliest opportunity.
W. A. McCutclian applied for sec. -21, blk 15. Pouatu, closed; part of Kohuratahi road.—Approved. R. Markham applied for a renewal of his lease of sec. 1-12, blk. D, Opunake town for seven years.—Deferred for ranger's report. F. Le Mon applied for lease of sec. 10, blk 2, Aria. —Declined,
The Ohura County Council asked to have sec. 12, blk. J), town of Mangaroa, vested in them as a site for a public pound.—Resolved that the Board cannot entertain the application, but the ranger (Mr. Tohne) will co-operate with the Council in selecting a site in another locality.
J. O'Connor and W. Ireland applied to take timber from sec. 13, blk. 1, Piopiotea West, and Goodsir Bros., selectors of sec. 12. applied for the section to be added to their holding.—Declined.
11. T. Twins, Crown Lands Ranger, reported on the application of Gaustad Bros, to surrender sec. 44. I>l k 11. Waitara.—Applicants to be informed that they must surrender 'before the Department will go to the expense of ascertaining the value of improvements. He also reported on the application of J. Ilutchins for sec. 'l, blk. 13, Mimi, and for that part of sec. 5, blk. 13, Waro Application for sec. 1 declined, but that a year to year lease will be granted at £1 per annum. Application for sec. 5 recommended at a rental based on capital value of £1 per acre. H<i also reported on the application by H. Jury for part sec. 5, blk. 13, Waro. —Report adopted. He reported on the proposals of the Clifton County Council for the expenditure of thirds, and this matter was left with the Commissioner to deal with.
E. Tolme (rangier) reported on L. Lloyd's application for a bridge over a stream to give access to sec. 5, blk. 8, Waro.—The Hoard regrets that it cannot make any recommendation in the matter.

Ryan—The ranger is to report on the quantity of milling timber on the section, and also on sec. 12, blk. 3, adjoining. Mr. E. A. Meredith, assistant Crown Lands Ranger, reported on the application of R, Cleave for extension of time to reside with his wife and' family.—lf not resident by December 31, 1911, terest to be forfeited.
The Lender-Secretary for Lands wrote, stating the opinion of the Crown Law Officers ro renewal of leases under the Taranaki Scholarships Endowment Act, 11)10.—Acknowledged. A plan of deviation, of the Mangao> watu road in Uks. 9, and 10, Pouatu, was laid on the table.—Resolved that titles be amended accordingly. R. The question of reduction of royalty on totara' anfi'grant of lea.se for two years to Jlullians & Co.. was considered.—-Resolved to, recommend that a sum of £7l 10s be placed on estimates for payment to outgoing, tenants for improvements. It was also resolved to reduce the royalty on totara from 2s 6d to 2s, and to give Jlullians & Co. a twoyear lease of the section at an annual rental of £lO.
Tie also reported on the inspection of six holdings. Improvements required were £4374, and effected •.•C4739, Three have not done sufficient 'improvements. —The report was satisfactory.
IT. F. Munro applied for the freehold • WL 1., Opunake.—Approved. W. K. Da vies wrote/stating that he had taken over the tenancy of sees. 7, 8_ and 9, village of Puniwhakau, from Iv. Maxwell.-—Transfer approved. W. Beard applied for part sec. 7. blk. 5, Ohura, t*» give frontage and building site. Resolved that the application be recommended at a price of £2 per acre, area to be defined by ranger. H. T. Twiss reported on application of Sheeny Uros. for part'Mangatawa township reserve for a site for accommodation house. Resolved to dispose of land between road and one chain reservation for cash for £1(1.

Meredith reported on sec. 3, blk. 2, Totoro, with improvements thereon. —Resolved to offer the land, with adjoining Crown lands, at 30s per acre, weighted with valuation for improvements, in terms of report. The Taranaki County Council applied for consent to take road through sec. 150, Una. —Ranger's report to be ob» tained.
The New Plymouth Borough • Council wrote, offering close portion of Tamai street, between Bulteel and Downe streets, to the Board for £2oo.—Resolved that the offer cannot be entertained.
The Under-Secretary for Lands wrote re notice of expiry of lease to be given lessees of Education reserves who have right, of jenmval.—Resolved that the suggestions therein be adopted. The Board then rose.
