EG MO XT VILLAGE. /From Our Own Correspondent.) Only four members put In an appearance at the Mutual Improvement Soci«ty's meeting on Thursday, so the meeting was postponed till the 21st Inst. On Saturday night the annual meeting of the Cricket Club was held in the hall. Mr. Geo. 'Marsh presided over a good attendance of members. Although the profit and loss account showed a slightly worse state in the club's finances, the club is in a good position, as it has an up-to-date complement of gear, etc., which will save, a lot of expense this year. It was decided not to affiliate with the Cricket Association' nor to enter a team in the competitions. The subscription was fixed at 2s Gd. Mr. vseo. March was re-elected president, Mr. G. F. Dewhirst vice-president, Mr. A. Morton patron, Mr. G. 11. Mar.-ih secretary and treasurer. The following committee was elected: The president, secretary, and 'Messrs P. G. Olson, R. G. Marsh, X. S. James and F. Dewhirst. Mr. N. S. James, owing to private pressure of business, was forced to resign his position as secretary and treasurer. Mr. James' resignation was accepted with regret, and, on the motion of Mr. E. Dewhirst. a record of the club's appreciation of his work as secretary was placed oil the minutes. Hearty votes of thanks to outgoing officers, to Mr. A. Morion for the past use of his ground, and to the chair, concluded the meeting. A dance in aid of the hall funds will be held oil the 2"2iul inst. A motor-car which refused to go caused some mild excitement here on Sunday. The occupant* were marooned in the Village from 3 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., when another car came out from Xew Plymouth to their rescue.
