LONDON PRODUCE REPORT. Messrs. E. Griffiths and Co. are in receipt of the following market report from their London principals, Messrs. Mills and Sparrow, dated August 4, lflll:
The hot dry weather continues, although a few light showers have fallen in different parts of the country. We are again experiencing trouble through strikes, the dockers and lightermen having come out during the week and it is expected to spread to the carters. Danish: The quotatiqji remains unchanged. Arrivals this week are clearing. Siberian: Tlvere has been a good demand, this being practically the only butter that can now be retailed at Is per lb. Arrivals this week are rather less than last. Irish and French: The position is unchanged. Canadian: Quite a few butters have arrived just lately and quality has given 1 every satisfaction. They have come to hand in good order and met with a ready sale. Australian: The strike already reported is causing great inconvenience, Beveral steamers from the Colonies having arrived and arc lying in the docks waiting to be discharged. So far this has not had any influence on the market, as buyers have sufficient stock in cold store to carry them over for a few days, and it is to be hoped that a settlement will soon be arrived at. The trade continues good, although consumption generally falls off a little during the hot weather, but with a return of cooler weather the consumption will increase, and we must look I for higher prices. New Zealand: Buyers are hoping that shipments will commence early. There is no doubt that they will be wanted, and realise high prices. Fine quality is getting very scarce. CHEESE. Canadian: The market continues firm and the prices arc unchanged. The consumption seems exceptionally good, which is not to be surprised at, seeing the favorable weather that we have been getting. New Zealand: The market is cleared. The s.s. lonic is in dock, but cannot be discharged owing to the strike. Buyers are anxiously waiting for the goods. The prospects for the coming season look very rosy, as Canadian is likely to finish up short.
