Sir Joseph Ward says that ten months ago a proposal was discussed for the establishment of a fast steamer service between New Zealand and Australia, but the suggestion that the matter had been revived now is entirely without foundation as far as the Government is concerned. ESCAPED PRISONER RECAPTURED. Wellington, Saturday. Albert Sims, the escaped prisoner, who got away from a gang at Invercargill on Monday, was recaptured by Sergeant (Burrows and Constable Schuffer on a farm of David Privis', near Kaiwara, 18 miles from Gore. lie had been working since Tuesday as a farm hand, at a wage of 25s Od a week. On Tuesday a strange man attempted to sell a bicycle at Gore. This led to enquiries and the arrest of the prisoner.
