SCHOONER, ASHORE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Wairoa, Yesterday. The auxiliary steam schooner Tuatea left hero last night for Napier, but attempted to return owing to the heavy weather. The vessel, however, went on the beach at 8 o'clock. Attempts will be made to float her oil' at high tide tonight. SHOW GROUNDS FOR lIAWKE'S BAY. Hastings, Last Night.
The committee of the Hawke's Bay A. and P. Society to-day recommended the purchase of Mr. W. Nelson's property at Tomoana, 51 acres, at the prices of £5275, for new show grounds. The property is a, mile and a half from Hastings, and eleven miles from Napier, ideally situated, with splendid plantations, in close proximity to the railway line. A GAOLER ATTACKED. Gisborne, Yesterday. A prisoner, named Alfred Garter, made a sudden savage attack on .the gaoler. C. Parker, whilst the latter was, administering medicine to him last evening. Carter had been remanded for treatment after a drinking bout. The gaoler was severely gashed about the head, and will be laid up for several d'ays. CONVICTED FOR SLY GROG SELLING. Dmiedin, Yesterday. Mary Tanscy, of Raddle Hill, who was previously convicted in July, 1000, was to-day fined £SO for sly grog selling.
