TARAN-Alii EXECUTIVE MEETING. A meeting of the Tiiranuki Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Fanners' Union was held on Thursday; present—Messrs. E. -Maxwell, R. 'Lanibie, Mail-fell, Cleaver, Diitm and J. Davidson. In the absence of the president (Mr. J. W. Jones) Mr. Davidson (vicepresident) occupied the chair. Special donations of £4 and C2 2s were received from the Te Roti and Elthani branches respectively.—Donors to be accorded a vote of thanks.
Air. (ieorge Prcecc wrote, tendering his resignation as a member of the Executive, ns, owing to family illness, he was unahlii to devote the time necessary to so important an Mr. Precee asked the Executive to accept a donation of .CI towards the funds. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Lambie. the resignation was accepted, with regret, and that -Mr. Precce he thanked for his donation. The chairman said he was sorry that Mr. Prcece had resigned, because he was a igood man 011 public bodies. This was endorsed by those present. The Toko branch forwarded a resolution. saying thai the branch disapproved of .Mr. Sidey's Daylight Savin" Hill, a.s it would cause inconvenience lo dairy farmers and others. Memlbers were not favorable to 1110 Hill, and it was resolved to inform the Toko branch that the Executive approved of its resolution. The Waimata branch forwarded a resolution in connection with the .Seeds Sale and Control Bill, pointing out that it was desirable 'that all seeds should be inspected by one or more central authority, preferably by experts under the Cove rnnient, and all seeds bearing certificate of the inspectors shall be 11 guarantee that the seeds are clean within the meaning of the Act. 'lt was thought that it would be u good idea if a conference of those interested in the sale of seeds could be held lo thoroughly discuss the matter, t'o as to ensure steps being taken to have nothing hut the <)>est of seed marketed.
.Mr. Jiaxwell moved that, the Executive is favorable to the postponement of the Pill until after a conference lwtween (lie seed merchants, A. and P. Association*, and representatives of the fanning eommimiiy under tlio (till. Mr. Dunn seconded the motion, which was carried. A copy of tlit' resolution, together with a copy of the Kaimata branch's letter, is to be forwarded to the Taranalci members of Parliament. The Dominion Secretary forwarded the following resolution, discussed at the Dominion Conference, baoi< to the. Executive for consideration: "Thai this conference protests against auctioneers discriminating between dairy and dry stock, the !> per cent, commission charged for dairy stock being excessive when sold' in lots of live or more." Mr. Jack stated that the delegates from the south had said at the conference that they bad lieen able to make satisfactory arrangements with the local auctioneers, and it wa# thought that the Taranaki Executive would be able to do likewise. The members considered that n satisfactory arrangement might be ma do with the auctioneers, and it was resolved to write to the various auctioneers in the provincial district of Taranaki, saying that the Executive sees no reason why concessions on sale of daily stock should be higher than on dry stock when being sold in the sale yards. A number of remits dealt with at the recent conference were forwarded to the Executive for an expression of opinion, and it w«s resolved that these be sent on to the various branches for consideration, the rcpljes to .be.returned' by next meeting.—Star.
