THE PAPANUI
AFIRE 1 FROM STEM TO STERN. BEACHED AND ABANDONED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright, St. Helena, September 13. The steamer Papanui, bound from Glasgow to Westralian ports, is afire from stem to stern. 'lt is completely gutted. The vessel has been beached and abandoned. The whole of the cargo had not been landed. A TOTAL WRECK. PASSENGERS PICKED UP AND LANDED. Received 14, 11 p.m. St. Helena, September 14. The cable steamer Britannia accommodated 150 of the Papanui's women and children. The rest landed in the Papanui's boats. The burning steamer was beached at Jamestown Bay and is a total wreck.
