Sydney, September 13. t The Minister of Works has promised' as far as possible to give effect to the request from a deputation of the Chamber of Manufacturers that preference be accorded to Australian-made goods. For the year ended June 30 the deposits in the Victorian savings banks amounted to £17,274,424. an average of £29 0s 9d per depositor, against £15,417,888 and £27 10s Id in the previous year. CHURCH UNION. Sydney, September 13. ! Airchbishop Clarke has officially announced that the conference of Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational Churches has arrived at a general agreement on the subject of doctrine, which points to the possibility of union as far as that is concerned. The subject of church government and policy has toeen discussed and deferred for further consideration.
