AEROPLANE FOR ANTARCTIC. By Cables-Press Association—Copyright. Kremantle, September 13. Lieutenant Watkins, the aviator who is accompanying the Mawson expedition. has arrived. His aeroplane is fitted with an ice carriage to travel in sleigh fashion when not in use. He anticipates that the polar cold will he no bar to Hying, and that the machine should be especially useful in reconnaissances of traversable, routes. In the event of making a dash to the pole, the aeroplane could stay in the air five hours and travel three hundred miles there and back in that time. It carries one passenger.
ACROSS AMERICA. New York. September 12. Fowler has started on his transcontinental aviation journey from San Francisco to New York. lie covered 120 miles on the first day. •MEETS WITH AN ACCIDENT. San Francisco, September 12. Fowler, the aviator, in attempting to cross the Sierras, fell through the rudder failing to work. The aeroplane was wrecked, but Fowler escaped with a few bruises.
