A London cablegram reports the death of Dr. Alexander, until lately Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of Ireland. The induction of the Rev. T. H. Eoseveiwc to the charge of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church will take place this evening. A London wire states that Vice-Ad-miral Sir Ilodworth Lambton assumes the surname of Meux, on succeeding to Lady Meux's estate. An Oaniaru wire says that at a meeting of the Oamaru Presbytery it was unanimously resolved to nominate the Rev. R. J. Porter as the Assembly's Moderator for 1012. •Mr. J. Mcdregor, formerly wool Imver for the Hawke's Bay Woollen Company and instructor to the Wamganni and Taramiki Education Boards, has been appointed instructor in wool classes organised by the Southland Education Board. Captain J. H. W. Uru, who was defeated by Mr. T. Pa rata, M.P.. by a very small margin for the Southern Maori seat at the last election, left for the West Coast on Saturday to open his campaign. He is standing as an Independent. Mr. (rcorge. W. Chandler, an old resident of Wellington, died on Tue-day morning, aged 72 years. Deceased was horn in London, and came to New Zealand in 15,")7 as a member of the crew ofi the Mincrve, and had practically lived in Wellington ever since. Mis. Daniel Love, « notable representative of the Maori race, died la>t week at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Warene, Petone, aged 52 years. The deceased was a daughter of the late Hon. Wi Taiko Xgatata, M.L.C., a powerful chief in the .Wellington district (Xgatiawa tribe), and the wife of Mr. Daniel Love, of Wellington, who is Handing for the Southern Maori seat at the general election. Mrs. Love was a woman of great force of character, and wa« a conspicuous figure at many'sittings of the Native Land Courts in the Wellington district. She has left a. family of nine—all of whom are married.
