SUPERIOR TO DREADNOUGHTS

A NEW TYPE OF FIGHTING VESSEL, j By Cable—Press Association—Copyright, ! London, September 11. The Orion has started on her trials at Portsmouth. Critics, comparing the Orion's armament with that of the Dreadnought, declares it makes the latter seem second-class. The Orion has ten 13.5 in guns mounted in five centre line turrets. The Dreadnought had ten 12in guns. Three of the five two-gun turrets were placed on the centre line, one forward of the superstructure, and two aft. The vessel was able to bring six guns to bear ahead or astern and eight on the broadside. The Orion will have a broadside of ten guns.
