Early salvers, good condition. £7 5s to £l4; later, £4 to £0 15s; 'old and empty, £2 10 to £4; springing heifers, £5.5.5 to £8 10s; in calf heifers, £3 7s fid to £4 16s; bulls, £3 7s fld to £7; mixed yearlings, 30s (id; light (lilies, £5 5s to £(>; sundries sold at usual rates.
At inv usual fortnightly sale at Urenui on Monday, September 4, there was a good yarding, especially of young cattle. Yearling steers were in good demand, and sold well, as also did a line of hoggets. Mixed yearlings made 30s Cd to 445; yearling steers, '£2 '(id to £2 14s; two-year do, £3 to £3 His; two and a half-year do. £4 Is; yearling heifers. £2 to £ 2 15s Cd; empty heifers, £3 to £3 17s <id; springing heifers. £4 to £8 2s Cd; dairy cows, £5 15s to £8 15s; store cows. £2 10s to £3 8s (id; forward cows, £3 l ! 7s fld to £vi 12s (id; bulls, £2 15s to £fi 10s; ewes and lainlis, lis Od; hoggets, 7s Id; two. four and six-tooth wethers, lis Od to 13s Bd. I had a good yarding at my Stratford springing heifer yards oil Tuesday, including some choice lines which sold as follows; Choice springing heifers, £6 7s (id to £8 2s Gil; good, £5 5s to £5 12s Od; calves, £3 2s 6d to £3 18s fid; springing cows, £(i. There was no inquiry for poor heifers or cows. At Stony River en Wednesday there was a. good yarding with a fair attendance of the public. Mixed yearlings realised 27s to 38s; yearling steers, 3fis to 455; two-year do, £2 19s to £3 3s; yearling heifer*, 33s to £2 12s Od; do Jerseys, £3 Is (id; two-year heifers, £3 2s to £3 15s; enrpty heifers, £2 10s to £4 (Is (id; springing heifers, £4 15s to £0 (is; store eows, £2 IDs to £3 Ss; forward do. £3 5s to £4 10s; fat cows, £0 10s; springing cows, £4 to £0; cows in milk, £5 His; bulls, £2 to £4 15s; 70 shares in the Stratford Dairy Co. realised 7s 0d each.
On Thursday at Mr. R. If. Phillip's sale at Ngnere 1 conducted Iris annual sale of dairy cattle, when a large number of the public were in attendance. The cattle, the majority of which were blacks, were in good condition, and bidding throughout being very brisk, a very satisactory sale was completed, just on dark, after seven hours' selling. Hol.stein cows and heifers were in most demand, altho' the top price was obtained for a choice well-bred Jersey, which realised £l7. Prices were: For grade cows close to -profit and calved. £lO ]os to £l7; later do. £(> 10s to £!); cows with weak quarters. £5 to £1) 15s; heifers in mill; and close to profit, £7 IjOs to £ll Ids; later do, £0 10s to ,£7 ss; heifers weak in quarters. £5 to £5 10s. On Friday, the Stli inst., at Junction road, f held a sale on account of Mr. J. Hale, when some 42 of his choice Jersey herd were offered to the public. Although most of the cows were pedigree Jerseys, none of them had been registered, and consequently they were sold as grades, realising from £l2 10s to £2B 10s. Of the bulls, only one, named "Dynamite."' Imd been registered, and he realised 40gns. The yearling bulls made £3 10s to £l2; twenty-months bulls, £4 13s; -two-year do, £0 15s to £l3 10s; three-year do, £9 10s.
