LADIES' TOURN'AMBNT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The New Zealand ladies' hockey tournament was continued to-day in splendid weather, and the attendance of the public was the best this week. MAYAWATI,' v. WANGANUI. Manawatu beat Wanganui by 2 to 1, and the match saw some very fine and brilliant play, notably among the Wanganui backs. Soon after commencing, Manawatu attacked spiritedly, and as a result of «i pretty combined rush Col■lingwood hit the ball into the net. Manawatu continued to press, but every shot was clewed by the Wanganui goalkeeper hitting well up the field, and at times turning defence into attack. Miss Collier, the Wanganui full-back, also played finely. The Wanganui forwards were not prominent until well on in the. spell. Soma exciting flashes of play were witnessed. Wanganui equalised the score as a result of their centre forward, Miss .Tones, who beat the goalkeepers badly. For the rest of'the spell play swept from eml to end at a rapid rate. OfT-side play was very no- , ticeable -among the Manawatu forwards, l and 'penalties .were .frequent. At halftime the scores were even, with Manawatn attacking. Tn the second spell offside play once more spoiled the Manawatn attack. Up and down field play again characterised the game. Time Ws called with both tennis equal, and as if, was necessary for a win to be registered, in order to compete in the semifinals. the game went on for fourteen minutes extra, After some hard play Miss McKenzie scored Manawatu's winning goal. NIELSON (4) v. WELLINGTON A (0). 'Nelson beat Wellington A by 4 to nil by playing a more scientific game. When these two trams met a week ago a draw resulted. The play to-day was not of a very high standard. For the whole of the spell Net-on had the better of things, the forwards displaying good combination, which Wellington forwards lacked. The latter appeared to play below form. Early in the game the "play was up and down field, but after that, Nelson's forwards got all lover 'fjho backs. -Miss Oarrick hit the first score from a pretty piece of .forward plav. Wellington attacked, but bad play spoilt all. Miss Oarrick again secured a goal. At this stage a Wellington player, Miss V. Warren, retired with a badly spraiincd leg. In the second half Nelson snored two more goals, per medium of Misses Carrick and Emms. SEMI-FTNALS. The semi-finals will be played to-mor-row. Nelson will play Buller. and Manawatn A will pay Hawke's Bay. The final will he played on Monday. NEXT TOURNAMENT AT AUCKLAND. At a meeting of the New Zealand Ladies' Hockey Association to-night it was decided tliat the next tournament take place in Auckland.
