HUNTING.

THE FINAL MEET. • The final meet of the season of the ■North Taranaki Hunt took place on Thursday afternoon at Urettui. The attendance was not so large as usual. Prior to the throw-off, Mr. A. 11. Hal - combe, master, entertained those present to an excellent luncheon at his homestead, and subsequently the huni adjourned to Mr. Taylor's farm, the latter having kindly granted permission for the members to hunt over his property. The jumps had all been carefully sparred by Mr. Jfalcom.be and others, and a good afternoon's sporv resulted. There were several runs, hares being numerous. The hounds worked well, and the hunters were all in good form, jumping clear throughout. Returning to the master's residence the members amused themselves for some time racing over a miniature steeplechase course which had been fixed up by Mr. Ilakombe. Post and rail, wicker fences, and brush fences had 'been erected. \ Subsequently the hunt adjourned for afternoon tea, which was very much appreciated. Mr. A. 11. Humphries, on behalf of the members, tendered thanks to Air. and Mrs. Haleombe for the extensive preparations they had made to ensure the enjoyment of the hunt and for their generous hospitality. He expressed regret that so few members had taken advantage of the invitation of the master. He also thanked Mr. Taylor for die use of his property. Mr. Haleombe, replying, excused the members for not attending in such large numbers as usual, for he knew that cows were coming in, and there was a great deal of general farm work which now kept them ai home. He would, of course, have liked to see a larger attendance, and hoped that next year, when he would give a further im itation, all the members would be able to be present.
