THE STEAD INTERVIEW. EXPLANATION BY .Ml!. STEAD. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, September 7. Mr. Stead lias written to Mr. Fisher expressing sorrow at tlie annoyance caused through tlie publication of the interview, a proof of winch was sent to Mr. Fisher's address three days before. tlie paper went to press. He was surprised at anyone, saying it was misleading, after reading the whole interview. There was nothing original in the sentiments expressed. Everyone knew not only that the question would arise, but no one in the -Mother Country would deny the right of the self-govern-ing dominions to haul down the flag rather than be involved in what they regarded as an unjust war. The right of secession was the foundation stone upon which the British Empire was retired. STATEMENT JSY Mil. FISHER. Melbourne, September 7. In the House of Representatives Mr. !■ islicr emphatically denied that any member of the Government, desired to break away from the Mother Country.
